Art classes in front of the sea

Castiglioncello is a renowned seaside resort, just one hour and half by train from Florence. Its shores are a perfect mixture of cliffs and coves. Its pine woods look over the limpid blue sea.

The village became popular in the sixties when several movie stars (among them Alberto Sordi and Marcello Mastroianni) chose Castiglioncello as their holiday destination. It was here that the film director Dino Risi shot the film “The easy life” (Il Sorpasso) starring Vittorio Gassman and Jean-Louis Trintignant.

Some decades earlier, at the turn of the 20th century, the “Macchiaioli”, a group of Italian artists, did much of their painting in Castiglioncello in order to capture outdoors natural light, shade, and colour. Giovanni Fattori, Silvestro Lega and Telemaco Signorini were the most famous representatives of the macchiaioli circle who painted the beautiful coast line near the village in their works.

– Departure from Florence Santa Maria Novella railway station at 11.20am. The Art teacher will meet the students at the station.

– Arrival in Castiglioncello at 1pm.

Duration of the lesson: 4 hours.
Schedule: 1:30pm – 5:30pm

After the lesson students can stay for a bath or an aperitivo on the beach. Trains back to Florence run approximately every hour.
