Fine Arts, Art History and Italian language courses in Florence

Art classes in front of the sea

The seashore and the cliffs of Castiglioncello

A day at the seaside drawing and painting

During the summer students are given the opportunity to take part to some special art sessions in front of the sea on the beautiful coast of Tuscany.

Both Art novices and more expert artists can take advantage of this lesson, during which different techniques (such as pencils, charcoals, water colour, oil) can be used according to each student’s specifical needs and requests.

These sessions are open to all students who wish to enjoy an outdoor lesson far from the madding crowd in the magic of the seascape. Students enrolled in one of our Art courses are entitled to a special price.

Castiglioncello

Castiglioncello is a renowned seaside resort, just one hour and half by train from Florence. Its shores are a perfect mixture of cliffs and coves. Its pine woods look over the limpid blue sea.

The village became popular in the sixties when several movie stars (among them Alberto Sordi and Marcello Mastroianni) chose Castiglioncello as their holiday destination. It was here that the film director Dino Risi shot the film “The easy life” (Il Sorpasso) starring Vittorio Gassman and Jean-Louis Trintignant.

Some decades earlier, at the turn of the 20th century, the “Macchiaioli”, a group of Italian artists, did much of their painting in Castiglioncello in order to capture outdoors natural light, shade, and colour. Giovanni Fattori, Silvestro Lega and Telemaco Signorini were the most famous representatives of the macchiaioli circle who painted the beautiful coast line near the village in their works.

Testimonials

  • What a great class by the sea yesterday. Enrico had his work cut out for him and he triumphed. Let's just say some of us were not as skilled as others. He is a wonderful teacher as I'm sure you know. I will definitely suggest to other friends traveling to Florence to look you up.
    Keep up the great work.
