Acrylic Painting workshop

A medium that both beginners and experienced artists can enjoy

Acrylic Painting workshop

Acrylic painting techniques

Acrylic colors were invented in Germany in the 1930s but they only became popular twenty years later, when painters realized how useful this invention was for their artworks. For the first time in the history of painting artists could quickly adjust the appearance as well as the texture of the paint surface by using acrylic colors. In addition to that it was found out that acrylics were able to bond to several different surfaces, such as paper, canvas or even wood.

During this 5-day workshop students will learn all the potentials of this medium, they will be taught to apply colors in thin layers or washes to create watercolor effects or to use the same colors in order to build thick layers of paint that can create relief features. Students will be given the opportunity to paint the subjects they are eager to work on, either from pictures (portraits, landscapes) or still lives, or even abstract subjects such as acrylic pouring. During this workshop students will also learn:

  • how to use the various types of brushes and how to choose the proper size for their artistic purposes;
  • how to quickly sketch a subject on a paper sheet or on a canvas so as to to paint it accordingly;
  • how to work on details and render them as vivid and as accurate as possible;
  • how to recreate shades and light effects in the painting as well as other effects such as glossiness or opacity.

This workshop is also open to professionals who wish to hone their painting skills.

Classes are held either in Italian or in English.
